Qualifications:


Q. Will my experience as a reserve police officer count towards the 5-year sworn, civilian law enforcement?
A. No, only full time, qualified paid civilian law enforcement service qualifies.
Q. Will my military police experience count towards qualification as an International Police Officer?
A. It will count towards the 8-year verifiable work experience requirement, but not towards the 5 year sworn, civilian law enforcement requirement.

Physical Agility:


Q. Are the physical fitness courses that must be completed during the pre deployment training program adjusted for age or gender?
A. No, the physical agility course is the same for all candidates.

Training:


Q. Does CPI cover the cost of housing, meals and travel during the pre deployment training program?
A. CPI covers all these costs.

Q.

Does being selected to attend the pre deployment training program necessarily mean that I have been chosen to be an International Police Officer?
A. No. Candidates must successfully complete all phases of the pre deployment training program before CPI offers a contract.

Q.

If I do not successfully complete a part of the pre deployment program and return home, can I return and try again at a later date?
A. If you do not pass the medical, physical fitness, or firearms portion of the training process, CPI may allow you to return at a later time to try again. It will be your responsibility to ensure that the issues have been resolved and that there is a reasonable expectation for successful completion. You may be required to pay for your own travel expenses.

Mission Questions:


Q. What is the mission of the International Police Officer (IPLO)?
A. The mission of the IPLO is to 1 Advise, assist, monitor, and mentor foreign national police officers. 2. Provide technical assistance in policing skills and techniques to foreign national police at all levels, 3. Identify non-conforming practices such as corruption, violation of human rights, etc), and 4. Maintain international observation and presence over foreign police officers.

Q.

Is it possible to return home following the completion of the pre deployment training program prior to going overseas?
A. No. In most cases you will be required to be ready for immediate travel upon completing the pre deployment training program.

Q.

Are extensions possible at the end of my first mission?
A. Yes, if CPI and the State Department are satisfied with your performance and recommend the extension. In all cases, extensions are granted based on the needs of the mission.

Q.

Is health insurance available and provided for me and for my dependents?
A. Yes. It is offered for both. Employee coverage is at no cost to the employee. Dependent coverage is paid for by the employee.

Q.

Can I bring my personal firearm to the armed missions?
A. No. Personal weapons of any type are not permitted in the mission area.

Q.

Can I use my accrued leave time to end my mission early?
A. No. Leave time can only be used during the mission year.

Q.

What kind of work schedule should I anticipate?
A. Officer work schedules vary depending on location and assignment. Most officers work 8 to 12-hour shifts.

Q.

How can I communicate with my family while I am overseas?
A. Most mission areas have a means of communication such as e-mail or phone service. This will depend on the site or location where you are assigned. CPI offers mail service to all officers regardless of their locations.

Medical:


Q. Am I required to have any specific shots or immunizations before I leave the United States?
A. Yes, they are listed in your hiring packet. Immunizations can be administered either by your personal physician or by CPI during pre deployment training.

Q.

If I am required to take regular medicine will it be available in the mission area?
A. While most medicines are available in the mission area, some prescription medicines may not be. It is suggested that officers take at least a six month supply with them for their medical needs.

Pay:


Q. Will I be paid for the time I am attending the pre deployment training program?
A. Yes, you will receive compensation for the number of days completed while at training.

Q.

How am I paid? How soon will I receive my first check?
A. Salary is paid by direct deposit to any account you designate. The first salary check is usually received within 4 to 6 weeks, and regular checks are received monthly thereafter.

Emergencies:


Q.

What happens if a family emergency requires that I leave the mission area to return to the U.S.?

A. CPI understands that officers may encounter family emergencies while participating in overseas missions. In such events, CPI in-country staff will work with the officer to accommodate his/her needs to leave the mission area and fly home.
